Updated this week

WisDOT uses network screening crash prediction models (i.e., safety performance functions (SPFs)) to support network screening. To develop these models, roadway segments and intersections are combined into categories (SPF Groups) with similar characteristics.

How Crashes Are Applied in Network Screening

WisDOT does not use the following crashes in the development and application of safety performance functions within the Network Screening applications:

  • Work Zone Involved crashes (Work Zone Involved = Y)

  • Animal Involved crashes (Animal Involved = Y)

  • Parking Lot crashes (Location Type = Parking Lot)
