Criteria for ALL: Remove crashes that occurred on private property. (This is already filtered out of data received from GEARS)

Filter Name: Aggressive Driving Related
Criteria:

  • Unit factor contains exceeding speed, improper passing, too fast for conditions, improper passing of school bus, reckless driving, or racing, aggressive driving, disregard police/evasion.

Filter Name: Impaired Driver
Criteria:

  • Driver condition =  10 (suspected under influence)

OR

  • Driver condition = 2 (unknown)

  • Alcohol or drug test given: Yes

OR

  • Citation codes = Contains: 40-6-391 or  40-6-95 

  • Doesn’t meet criteria for Impaired (Confirmed)

Filter Name: Impaired Driving (Confirmed)
Criteria:

  • Driver condition =  4,5,6 (drugs & alcohol)

OR:

  • Unit contributing factor  = 2 (impaired).

OR:

  • Driver condition = 10 (Suspected U.I. (Alcohol and/or Drugs))

  • Alcohol test results are 0.08 or higher

OR

  • Driver condition = 10 (Suspected U.I. (Alcohol and/or Drugs))

  • Drug test results = positive

Filter Name: Large Truck Related
Criteria:

  • Commercial Vehicle Indicator is Yes

OR

  • Carrier Name = populated (including “unknown”)

Filter Name: Distracted Driver Related (Confirmed)
Criteria:

  • Unit Factor = 28 (Inattentive or Other Distraction (Distracted)), 29 (Texting (Distracted)), 30 (Talking on Hands-Free Device (Distracted)), 31 (Talking on Hand-Held Device (Distracted)), 32 (Other Activity - Mobile Device (Distracted)), 33 (Occupant Distraction (Distracted)), 34 (Other Interior Distraction (Distracted)), 35 (Other Exterior Distraction (Distracted))

Filter Name: Distracted Driver
Criteria:

  • Person Type = 1 (Driver)

  • Manner of Collision = Rear End, Head On, Not a Collision with Motor Vehicle, or Sideswipe-Opposite Direction

  • First Harmful Event is not Deer or Animal

  • Surface Condition is not Ice/Frost, Slush, or Snow

  • Vehicle Contributing Factor is not Tire Failure, Slick Tires, Break Failure, Steering Failure, Power Train, Suspension, or Truck Coupling / Trailer Hitch / Safety Chains

  • Driver Condition is not U.I Alcohol, U.I alcohol & Drugs, U.I Drugs, Suspected U.I (Alcohol and/or Drugs), or Suspected Fatigued or Asleep

  • Alcohol Test Status is not Yes, or Refused

  • Drug Test Status is not Yes or Revused

  • Operator/Driver Contributing Factor is not Exceeding Speed Limit, Too Fast for Conditions, Reckless Driving, Aggressive Driving, Racing, Disregard Police - Evasion, Failure to Yield, Disregard Stop Sign/Signal, Improper Passing, Improper Passing of School Bus, Improper Turn, Not Visible (Object, Person, or Vehicle), Vision Obscured, Under the Influence (U.I), Driver Condition, Disregard Other Traffic Control, or Misjudged Clearance

  • Distracted Driver Related (Confirmed) is False

Filter Name: Hit & Run Related

Criteria:

  • Hit & Run indicator is Yes

Filter Name: Intersection Related
Current Criteria:

  • Intersection ID is not Blank or Null

Filter Name: Motorcycle Related
Criteria:

  • Vehicle type of 17, 18 (Motorcycle, Moped, Scooter, or Minibike)

Filter Name: Older Driver Related (55-64)
Criteria:

  • Driver Age = 65-98 (above this is error)

  • Exclude vehicle types: 19 (Pedalcycle, Bicycle)

  • Person type = 1 (Driver)

Filter Name: Older Driver Related (65+)
Criteria:

  • Driver Age = 65-98 (above this is error)

  • Exclude vehicle types: 19

  • Person type = 1

    • 21 (Median Barrier)

    • 22 (Highway Traffic Sign Post)

    • 23 (Overhead Sign Support)

    • 26 (Other Post/ Pole Support)

Filter Name: Young Driver (Age 15-19)
Criteria:

  • Driver age = 15-19

  • Exclude vehicle types: 19 (Pedacycle, Bicycle)

  • Person Type = 1 (Driver)

Filter Name: Young Adult Driver (Age 20-24)

Criteria:

  • Driver age = 20-24

  • Exclude vehicle types: 19 (Pedalcycle, Bicycle)

  • Person Type = 1 (Driver)
    Secondary Crash Related

Filter Name: Secondary Crash 

  • Roadway contributing factors = 9 (backup due to prior crash), 10 (traffic congestion), 12 (obstruction in roadway)

Person level filters:

Occupant Protection Related (8+) 

Filter Name: Occupant Protection
Criteria:

  • Person type 2 (Passenger)

  • For all: veh type not 17 (Motorcycle), 18 (Moped, Scooter or Minibike), 19 (Pedalcycle, Bicycle), 20 (Farm or Construction Equipment), 21 (All Terrain Vehicle), 23 (Golf Cart or Go Cart)

  • Age 8+

  • Safety Equipment

  • 0 (“Unrestrained”)

  • 6-8,11-12 (“Unknown”)

  • 1- 5,9-10 (“Restrained”)

-If veh year is 2007 or earlier use:

  • Safety Equipment

  •  0 (“Unrestrained”)

  • 6-8,11-12 (“Unknown”)

  • 1,2,5,10 (“Improperly Restrained”)

  • 3,4,9 (“Properly Restrained”)

Filter Name: Occupant Protection
Criteria:

  • Person type 2 (Passenger)

  • For all: veh type not 17 (Motorcycle), 18 (Moped, Scooter or Minibike), 19 (Pedalcycle, Bicycle), 20 (Farm or Construction Equipment), 21 (All Terrain Vehicle), 23 (Golf Cart or Go Cart)

Filter Name: Helmet Related
Criteria:

  • Person type of 1 (Driver) or 2 (Passenger)

  • Vehicle Types: 17 (Motorcycle), 18 (Moped, Scooter or Minibike), 19 (Pedalcycle, Bicycle), 21 (All Terrain Vehicle), 23 (Golf Cart or Go Cart)

  • Safety Equipment: 

  • 6,7 > “Helmeted”

  • 0 = “Unhelmeted”

  • 1-5,8-12: “Unknown”
