All PennDOT route IDs in Numetric are unique 9 or 12-character strings that summarize all relevant data within the route, including ownership (State/Local), County, and Route Number - all separated by underscores. An example of two unique Route IDs, as well as an explanation of each of these fields is outlined below.

Example Route IDs
The breakdown of the route ID is outlined below using two example Route IDs:
Example of State Road: SR_07_4016B
Example of Local Road: LR_37_00150227
Ownership
The first two characters of every Route ID indicate the ownership of the route. State-owned routes begin with the prefix SR, and all Local-owned routes begin with the prefix LR.

Route Number
The last group of characters indicate the Route Number, and, in the case of State-owned routes, the directionality of the route.
Local routes display the 8-digit route number.
State routes display the 4-digit route number, and a character indicating the directionality of the route. The following characters are used to represent directionality:
N - Northbound
S - Southbound
E - Eastbound
W - Westbound
B - Both directions of travel
