Criteria for ALL: Remove crashes that occurred on private property. (This is already filtered out of data received from GEARS)

Filter Name: Aggressive Driving
Criteria:

  • Unit factor contains exceeding speed, improper passing, too fast for conditions, improper passing of school bus, reckless driving, or racing, aggressive driving, disregard police/evasion.

Filter Name: Impaired Driver
Criteria:

  • Driver condition =  10 (suspected under influence)

OR

  • Driver condition = 2 (unknown)

  • Alcohol or drug test given: Yes

OR

  • Citation codes = Contains: 40-6-391 or  40-6-95 

  • Doesn’t meet criteria for Impaired (Confirmed)

Filter Name: Impaired Driver
Criteria:

  • Driver condition =  4,5,6 (drugs & alcohol)

OR:

  • Unit contributing factor  = 2 (impaired).

OR:

  • Driver condition = 10

  • Alcohol test results are 0.08 or higher

OR

  • Driver condition = 10

  • Drug test results = positive

Filter Name: CMV
Criteria:

  • Commercial Vehicle Indicator is Yes

OR

  • Carrier Name = populated (including “unknown”)

Filter Name: Distracted Driver
Criteria:

  • Unit Factor = 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35

Filter Name: Distracted Driver
Criteria:

  • Manner of Collision = Rear End, Not a Collision with a Motor Vehicle, Head On, or Sideswipe-Opposite Direction

  • First Harmful Event ≠ Deer, or Animal

  • Surface Condition ≠ Ice/Frost, Snow, or Slush

  • Vehicle Condition ≠ Tire Failure, Slick Tires, Break Failure, Steering Failure, Power Train, Suspension, or Truck Coupling/Trailer Hitch/Safety Chains

  • Operator/Driver Contributing Factor ≠ Exceeding Speed Limit, Too Fast for Conditions, Reckless Driving, Aggressive Driving, Racing, Disregard Police - Evasion, Failure to Yield, Disregard Stop Sign/Signal, Improper Passing, Improper Passing of School Bus, Improper Turn, Not Visible (Object, Person, or Vehicle), Under the Influence (U.I.), Driver Condition, Disregard Other Traffic Control, Misjudged Clearance, or Vision Obscured

  • Driver Condition ≠ U.I. Alcohol, U.I. alcohol & drugs, U.I. Drugs, Suspected U.I. (Alcohol and/or Drugs), or Suspected Fatigued or Asleep

  • Alcohol Test Status ≠ Yes, or Refused

  • Drug Test Status ≠ Yes, or Refused

  • Distracted Driving Related (Confirmed) = False

Filter Name: Hit & Run

Criteria:

  • Hit & Run indicator is Yes

Filter Name: Intersection
Current Criteria:

  • If there is an intersecting roadway listed

  • If Location at Impact is not "On Roadway - Non-Intersection"

Future Criteria: is crash mapped to a GIS intersection?

Filter Name: Motorcycle
Criteria:

  • Vehicle type of 17, 18

Filter Name: Older Driver
Criteria:

  • Driver Age = 55-64 

  • Exclude vehicle types: 19

  • Person type = 1

Filter Name: Older Driver
Criteria:

  • Driver Age = 65-98 (above this is error)

  • Exclude vehicle types: 19

  • Person type = 1

Filter Name: Bicycle
Criteria:

  • Vehicle type = 19

Filter Name: Pedestrian
Criteria:

  • Person type = 7

Filter Name: Roadway Departure
Criteria:

  • If First Harmful Event code is 14+, exclude 35 & 37

OR

  • Location at Area of Impact = on shoulder (2), off roadway (3), median (4), off roadway sidewalk (15)

Filter Name: Younger Driver
Criteria:

  • Driver age = 15-19

  • Exclude vehicle types: 19 (pedacycle/bicycle)

Filter Name: Secondary Crash 

  • Roadway contributing factors = 9 (backup due to prior crash), 10 (traffic congestion), 12 (obstruction in roadway)

Person level filters:

Criteria:

  • Person type of 1

  • For all: veh type not 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 23

  • Age 8+

  • Safety Equipment
         0 (“Unrestrained”)
         6-8,11-12 (“Unknown”)
         1- 5,9-10 (“Restrained”)

-If veh year is 2007 or earlier use:

  • Safety Equipment

  •  0 (“Unrestrained”)

  • 6-8,11-12 (“Unknown”)

  • 1,2,5,10 (“Improperly Restrained”)

  • 3,4,9 (“Properly Restrained”)
