The Michigan Traffic Crash Dashboard is designed to provide custom dashboards to help display and share crash data throughout the state of Michigan. The dashboard provides users with a curated data experience, providing insight into specific emphasis areas with customizable charts and visualizations.
Users can explore and refine the dashboard using the numerous available filters.
At the top of the dashboard is the search bar that displays all filters that are currently applied to the dashboard. These filters can be modified by selecting a filter and making the desired adjustments. Filters can be added by clicking on the “Add Filter” button in the search bar. A drop-down menu will then display the available filters.
Located to the right of the screen is the filter sidebar. The sidebar can be opened and closed by selecting the blue arrow icon. The sidebar contains a list of useful filters that are curated to the dashboard. Select the filter using the corresponding drop-down menus and it will be added to the search bar at the top of the screen.
Filters can be stacked on top of each other to further refine the dashboard. Please note that the order in which a filter is applied will affect the outcome of the data.
All filters can be removed by clicking on the “X” next to the filter in the search bar.
Each dashboard is comprised of various metrics. These are the individual charts and tables that make up the dashboard. Any metric can be expanded by clicking on the title. Many of the metrics are interactive. Whenever the cursor changes from an arrow to a hand, you can click to apply the component of the chart as a filter.
As filters are applied the graphs and charts will automatically update to only display the data for the selected filter(s).
There are multiple tabs of data within this dashboard that display data. To navigate between tabs, click on the tab at the top of the screen, located under the search bar. The dashboard has tabs addressing questions of who, when, where and why. Each of these dashboards contain data that will answer these questions.
The filters that are applied will persist from one tab into the next tab.
Many of the elements of a dashboard can be downloaded either as an image file or a spreadsheet. To download a chart, click on the download button located in the top right corner of each chart.
Any table of data can be downloaded by clicking on the download button at the bottom of the table. This will prompt a download of the spreadsheet of data.
Entire tabs of the dashboard can be downloaded by clicking on the download icon, located in the top right corners of the screen.
Select the tab from the drop-down menu and click create report.
From the preview screen you can adjust the page breaks and the size and position of metrics, to allow for a better formatted PDF. Click the save and download button in the top right corner when complete.
