Editing Crash Data in Numetric

Written by Lauren Miller

Overview

Numetric allows users with appropriate permissions to edit specific fields in the Crash dataset. Only users with the Edit Crash Data permission can edit crash data in Collision Diagrams. Access to edit crash data is granted by your organization's user administrator. Any edited data fields will be displayed to all Numetric users in the application where the crash occurred.

All data edits completed in Numetric are non-destructive, meaning the original data is preserved, while the edited values are stored independently within the system. This preserves the integrity of the original data while still allowing edited data values to be displayed in the Numetric platform.

An audit trail tracks the history of data edits, displaying when the edit was made, who made it, and the edited value.

Any user with permission to edit crash data will see the option to edit it within Collision Diagrams. Any edits to the crash data are stored within the application where they were made; i.e., an edit to a crash in Collision Diagrams will be stored in that application for all users.

Editing Crashes in Collision Diagrams

The Crash Edit window contains the crash narrative (when available), Crash Details, Location Details, and the Edit History section, which records the edits made to the data.

To edit a crash in Collision Diagrams, click the crash icon to open its flyout window, then select “Details” followed by “Edit Attributes.”

(Click the icon from the diagram to open the flyout window. From there, select “Details” and “Edit Attributes” to open the crash edit window.)

To edit crashes with discrepancies, click the text “X crashes couldn’t be shown due to discrepancies.” This will open the flyout for those crashes, where you can select “Edit Attributes” for each one.

(Crashes with discrepancies will show a warning; click the text to open the flyout window for these crashes.)

(The “Crashes With Discrepencies” flyout window within Collision Diagrams. Click “Edit Attributes” to open the crash edit window.)

Within the Crash Edit window, users will see the following fields:

  • Route ID

  • Log Mile

  • City (Mapped)

  • County

  • Road Name

  • Route

  • Manner of First Collision

  • First Harmful Event

  • Type of Crash

  • Vehicle 1 Direction and Maneuver

  • Vehicle 2 Direction and Maneuver

(Note: the names of these fields may vary depending on the naming structure within your organization)

Users cannot add or remove vehicles; they can only edit the details of vehicles one and two.

Editing the Crash

The following fields can be edited:

  • Manner of First Collision

  • First Harmful Event

  • Type of Crash

  • Vehicle 1 Direction and Maneuver

  • Vehicle 2 Direction and Maneuver

Uneditable Crash Fields

The following fields appear editable, but changes will not be applied, and attempting to save changes to these fields may result in an error:

  • Route ID

  • Log Mile

  • City (Mapped)

  • County

  • Road Name

  • Route

  • Type of Crash

After editing the desired values and clicking the Apply Edits button, the allowed edits will appear in the History section. All users with edit access in Collision Diagrams will see the edit history. Crash edits are applied globally for all users within the organization who have access to the Collision Diagrams application.

Crash edits do not appear in the Raw Table or its download; the original crash values will continue to be displayed there. If the edits align with Collision Diagrams logic, the crash will appear on the diagram with the appropriate icon. Edited values will be visible in the crash flyout.

Editing Crashes in Crash Query

In Crash Query, users with the crash edit permission will see the “Edit Attributes” option in the crash flyout; however, crash editing in Crash Query is non-functional. Attempted edits to crashes in this application will not be saved and will not appear in the edit history.
